Now Hiring: Full-Time Community Services Specialist

DSC is in search of a full-time Community Services Specialist. As a non-profit agency, we have served the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and DeafBlind communities for the past 30 years in the Central, Northwest, and Southeast regions of Ohio.  DSC is one of the longest standing Community Centers for the Deaf, as well as one of the largest and most reputable. Candidates must be self-motivated and work well with both adults and youth who are Deaf in a multitude of diverse settings. A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or other related field is required. Candidates must have the ability to communicate fluently with individuals who use sign language and experience in providing advocacy service related to accessing the community, understanding social service agencies, and awareness of public services. An in depth understanding of Deafness, DeafBlindness and Deaf Culture is required. Must possess driver’s license and vehicle. Must be flexible in time availability based on community needs. Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in the Human Service field preferred. Ability to communicate fluently with individuals who use sign language.  Experience in providing advocacy service related to accessing the community, understanding social service agencies, and awareness of public services. Experience working with all ages. In depth understanding of deafness, deafblindness and deaf culture. Must possess driver’s license and vehicle. Flexible time availability based on community needs.

Requirements:

  • Must take and pass drug screening and background check
  • Intermediate MS Office skills and ability to navigate technology needed to perform duties of the position (Google Drive, Zoom, Facetime, etc.)
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum based in providing vocational rehabilitation services (Career Exploration, Job Development, Job Seeking Skills Training and Job Coaching)
  • Willing to travel to different counties/areas of Ohio to provide services
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain an effective relationship with referral sources and employers
  • Must have strong decision making skills and possess current knowledge of employment soft skills practices
  • Appropriately complete written reports required by the referral sources
  • Complete documentation as needed related to accreditation and referral sources
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with teams and diverse groups

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal adjustment and personal advocacy services with individuals who are deaf, deafblind, hard-of-hearing (adults, children, and families) with in the community.
  • Information/Referral services to individuals who are deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing to appropriate community services/agencies.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the youth programming.
  • Provides tutoring, language acquisition, and living skills to individuals who are deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing and have relocated from another country.
  • Provides community learning courses for daily living skills to deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing.
  • Fosters and develops relationships within communities
  • Other assigned duties as directed.

Now Hiring: Part-time and Full-time American Sign Language Interpreters 

DSC is in search of part-time and full-time staff American Sign Language interpreters! DSC is the leading provider of American Sign Language interpreting services in central Ohio. We are a non-profit agency that has served the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing and Deaf-Blind communities for over 25 years. Our agency is one of the largest and most respected agencies serving central Ohio, including Northwest and Southeast Ohio.  Part-time: Preferred availability: a minimum of 10-20 hours per week 

  • Interpret in various settings throughout the community 
  • No office time required 
  • Assist in mentoring students and novice interpreters 

 Full-time: A minimum of 32-40 hours per week 

  • Interpret in various settings throughout the community 
  • Assist in office related duties 
  • Assist in mentoring students and novice interpreters

 Interested candidates should possess the following: 

  • Adherence to the RID Code of Professional Conduct 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Work well in a team setting or a solo setting 

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Associate’s degree or higher in interpreting or related field from an accredited institution or equivalent interpreting experience or training 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • RID/NAD certification 
  • ODE licensure and/or EIPA rating 
  • Membership to RID 
  • Four years of professional interpreting experience
