Advocacy Services
Advocacy services are designed to assist Deaf and hard of hearing people and their families in becoming fully participating members of our community. DSC supports full inclusion for people who are Deaf and hard of hearing in all community activities.

Case Management / Peer Support
Deaf and hard of hearing staff work towards empowering other Deaf and hard of hearing people in overcoming communication barriers and accessing community resources.

Speaker Bureau
DSC staff is available to speak at various functions on a wide range of topics including the Americans with Disabilities Act, American Sign Language, interpreting, and Deaf Culture.

ADA Technical Assistance
DSC provides assistance to organizations in finding cost effective means to meet their responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Staff also work with Deaf and hard of hearing people in understanding and pursuing their rights related to ADA legislation.

Deaf Equipment Modification Program (DEMP)
The City of Columbus and the U.S. Department of Housing provides DSC with funding to help purchase equipment for income-eligible deaf and hard of hearing individuals living in the city of Columbus to make their homes accessible.

Deaf Youth Leadership Program
"We can do anything but hear," is the motto of the Deaf Kids & Teens Club. Deaf children get together to learn about themselves and develop interpersonal skills to their fullest potential.

Sign Language Classes/Referrals
Instruction in sign language is provided at various locations. DSC maintains a list of companies, organizations and freelance instructors that provides ASL instruction. Information and Referral Services
DSC is considered a central source of information on Deafness, sign language, communication systems, adaptive equipment, as well as networking and service availability. DSC refers Deaf and hard of hearing people to appropriate service providers throughout central Ohio.

Southeast/Rural Outreach Program (SOP)
SOP is a rural outreach program servicing the Southeast area of Ohio. SOP provides advocacy, case management/peer support, Speakers Bureau, ADA technical assistance, sign language referrals, information and referral services.
