Fourth Annual Golf Outing a Success!
Please view PHOTOS of our 4th Annual Buckeye Golf Benefit for Deaf Youth which occurred on May 18th at the Phoenix Golf Links in Grove City. Deaf Services Center and The Buckeye Ranch partnered with each other for the second year to raise funds for their respective programs serving deaf youth. This event attracted 45 golfers and a variety of wonderful sponsors. Advocates for Kids and Miesse Pharmacy were the largest sponsors of the event.
We had a hole in one prize on the 15th hole for $10,000 and no one came close to making a $10,000 payday! The outing was played in best ball format and prizes were given to the top three teams and those who made the longest drive, closest to the pin and the longest putt. Due to the large number of door prizes, we were able to give everyone a chance at a prize or more!
We must thank all of our sponsors for this event and they all played a big role in the success of this event. We truly thank the members of the Grove City Sertoma Club for all their volunteer help with the event.
Our next golf outing will be at the Phoenix Golf Links on Friday May 16, 2008. Please look for more information from us in the near future!

Grove City Sertoma contributes $12,000 to Deaf Services Center
in support of its programs!
The Grove City Sertoma has continued their long standing support of Deaf Services Center and its programs. They have donated $12,000 raised through volunteer efforts to ensure that the community continues to be served! A portion of this funding will cover interpreting costs at the Advantage Driving School to enable deaf and hard of hearing teens to take classes at a communication barrier free environment. Funding also supported the Deaf Youth Leadership Program and a server upgrade to ensure that our computers will function to better serve the community. Kudos to the Grove City Sertoma members for their long standing support of Deaf Services Center!

SYSCO awards $5,000 to Deaf Services Center
Article By Rick Tarantelli – Human Resources Manager for The Sygma Network, Inc. a subsidiary of The SYSCO Corporation.
The Deaf Services Center (a non-profit organization founded in 1991) has grown to become the largest provider of community-based services for adults and young children who are deaf or hard of hearing in the state of Ohio. These community-based services include interpreting, case management / peer support, advocacy, ADA technical assistance, sign language referrals, speaker bureau, information and referral, deaf equipment modification program (DEMP), youth program, and rural outreach serving Southeast Ohio.
One of the most rewarding programs offered by the Deaf Services Center is the Deaf Youth Leadership Program. This program was designed to assist Deaf and Hard of Hearing children ages 9 to 18 to develop the necessary self-esteem, self-confidence and leadership qualities that will allow them to transit from the protected environment of the home and school into the world of young adulthood. This program also includes a week long Deaf Kids Camp and Deaf Teens Camp to focus on teaching team-building skills and information to help cope with peer pressure issues. Over 140 kids attended these activities annually and the success and longevity of the program has been made possible through support from local organizations.
Myself, Tina Tarantelli – Buyer for the Regional Office, Peggy McConaha – HR Supervisor, Terry Wallingford – Warehouse Manager, and Robin Mency – Customer Service Supervisor have all volunteered for the Deaf Services Center. I personally have volunteered since 1994. Our involvement with volunteering has been: (1) Helping with the coordination of their annual charity golf outings; specifically helping find participants and setting up the golf course; (2) Helping with cookouts for deaf kids and the deaf community; specifically preparing food, event set-up and clean-up; (3) Helping with physical labor jobs such as moving equipment, painting, office moves, and maintenance repairs; and (4) volunteering and working at the DSC Non-Profit Bingo Hall.
Due to my first hand knowledge of the vast services The Deaf Services Center provides the community we nominated them for SYSCO’s Community Service Award. The SYSCO Corporation is our parent company and on December 15, 2006, a check in the amount of $5,000.00 was presented to The Deaf Services Center on behalf of The SYSCO Corporation.
