DSC’s Wine and Cheese Fundraiser a Success! The DSC board and staff thank and
appreciate all who attended DSC’s first ever Wine and Cheese Fundraiser on Friday,
November 6, 2009 at the House Wine in Worthington, Ohio. We had over 60 people
who came and sampled the fine wine and food samplings. All proceeds go to benefit
both youth programs, the Deaf Kids and Teens Club (DKTC) and the Kids of Deaf
Adults (KODA).


Thank you Grove City Sertoma!! DSC thanks Grove City Sertoma for their many
years of support and dedication to DSC's DKTC program. John Moore, Executive
Director, and Phyllis Levi, Board member accepted a check from Grove City
Sertoma President Jennie Mackanos at their annual picnic in August. Thank you

Deaf Services Center receives Grants to continue KODA Program. Deaf Services
Center was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from Advocates for Kids and $1,000 from
the Jay and Meredith Crane Foundation to continue Kids of Deaf Adults (KODA) for the
second year. KODA provides kids and parents with recreational and educational
activities for families and to develop a strong network of parents to support each other
while raising their children. The grant will provide support for workshops, field trips,
social activities and the one-day camp in May 2010. See Press Release for more

Deaf Services Center thanks Advocates for Kids, DEAFund and Talezaar Funds
for their continued grant support of the DKTC Leadership program for 2009-2010
and the Deaf Adventure Camp for 2009.
Deaf Services Center was awarded a
$15,000 grant from the DEAFund and Talezaar Funds to continue the fanastic work of
the DKTC program in providing leadership and support through guest speakers, field
trips and social activities. Advocates for Kids awarded Deaf Services Center a $5,000
grant for both Deaf Services Center in Columbus, OH and a $5,000 grant to Community
Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Portsmouth (CSDHH) to support the annual
summer camp designed specifically for the deaf and hard of hearing children between
the ages of 8 to 15. The camp was well attended, hosting 60 deaf and hard of hearing
kids at Camp Kern in Orgenian, Ohio from Sunday, June 14, 2009 to Friday, June 19,
2009. DSC thanks AFK for their continued support. If you are interested in attending

DKTC’s Family Fun Holiday Event: Join us and watch the “Animals on Safari” show
at the Columbus Zoo from 6pm to 7pm and enjoy seeing the zoo animals and holiday
Wild lights. Cost is $6 per person or 18 points. More information/flyer is available by

KODA’s First Teen Workshop – Lewis Wright, Bobbie Huebner and Jody Black,
CODA Presenters – DSC's KODA program is proud to announce our first ever KODA
Teen Workshop to be presented by Lewis Wright, Bobbie Huebner and Jodi Black, who
are all CODAs. They will share their experiences growing up as CODAs. Come and
learn what it was like back then before technology exists today! January 9, 2010; 12pm
to 3pm at North YMCA, 1640 Sandalwood Place, Columbus, OH.

Interpreting Workshop on Taxes -- Just in time for tax season!! Introduction to Taxes
for Interpreters workshop!! DSC's Interpreting Department is pleased to announce this
free workshop to be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at OSD in the Garden Gallery.
This FREE workshop gives you the Do's and Dont's of doing your taxes. Malcolm
Creager, DSC’s Fiscal Officer, will give you some tips on how to do your taxes, what
you need to keep track of, and what you can and can’t claim on your taxes. This
workshop will be helpful for freelancers, independent interpreters and as well as
interpreters who work with an organization or agency. See link for more details.

Want to show your continued support to DSC all year around while you are shopping at
Kroger's? You can do this by registering your Kroger Plus Card and link your card to
Deaf Services Center. For every purchase you make at Kroger’s or Kroger’s Gas,
Kroger’s Community Rewards Program will donate monies to DSC based on the
amount of purchases made linked to your card. This will help DSC continue to
