Deaf people in Columbus don't have to wait anymore for movies to come out on video. Now, you can go to the movies anytime! A new program is called MOPIX which is expanding in the theatres. It is also known as Rear Window Captioning (RWC).
Rear Window Captioning enables movie fans with hearing loss to enjoy a film via reflected captions that appear on a Plexiglas panel in front of them at their seat. Other people cannot see the words on the screen. Only those with the Plexiglass panel will be able to see the captioning. A list of theatres equipped with that system, current films and showtimes can be found at the below web site address.
Visit the MoPix Web site at http://ncam.wgbh.org/mopix/ Movies available in Ohio
Check the movie section or contact AMC movies. Currently, AMC Easton and AMC Lennox near OSU offer MOPIX. MoPix-equipped theater locations, films and showtimes, & movie descriptions are available at AOL Keyword MoPix or at http://ncam.wgbh.org/mopix/nowshowing.html
It's always a good idea to double check films and showtimes by calling the theatres before heading out as schedules are subject to change. Also, please try arrive a bit early, 15-30 minutes if possible, to leave time for the visit to the customer service desk to get what you need (ex.- Rear Window reflector and/or DVS Theatrical headphones) for watching the movie. For more information on RWC, or MOPIX movies, please visit www.mopix.org or email the Media Access Group at access@wgbh.org or call 617 300-3400 v, 617 300-2489 TTY.

The Nationwide Arena: http://www.nationwidearena.com/schedule
The Germaine Amphitheatre: http://www.germainconcerts.com/2003/concerts.asp
Artistic Sign Language Services have made a commitment to interpret any event or concert, if there is a request. If you are interested in attending any event hosted by the Schottenstein Center, the Value City Arena, or the Nationwide Arena, you can contact Artistic Sign Language Services via email ArtisticSLS@aol.com, and they will get you in touch with the right people.
They offer prime seats to the deaf section, front rows, close to the stage but only if you request before tickets go on sale to the general public! They cannot hold back these prime seats once tickets are open to the hearing community. If you request seats after they are open to the public, then they will try to sit you as close to the stage as possible, but no guarantees can be made.
If any person would like to have any of the Germain Amphitheatre events interpreted, you can contact Artistic Sign Language Services via email ArtisticSLS@aol.com. They then will assist in making the arrangements. Their policy is to provide an interpreter upon request. If there is only one deaf consumer, then you have the option of sitting close to the stage and having the interpreter of your choice sit next to you. If there are more than one deaf person, then you will be located in the flat and elevated platform which is about the 20th row. You also can be supplied with a Phonic Ear.
